Skips & Containers

Where can I hire a skip?

There are a number of Skip Hire companies scattered across Greater Manchester and other locations. If you want to hire a skip simply call us on 0161 703 8592
to speak to one of our friendly staff about arranging a competitively priced skip to be delivered to you.

Or complete our online Skip Hire Order Form and have a skip with you in a matter of hours.

What can I put in a skip?

Skips are for general and inert waste such as soil, garden waste, paper, plastics, wood, old furniture etc. For information about what you are allowed to put in your skip please ring us on 0161 703 8592.

One of our helpful team will be able to offer you more advice on what you can put in your skip.

How full can I load my skip?

Our drivers cannot collect your skip if it is overfilled by weight or volume. For safe and legal transport on public highways, your skip cannot be filled any higher than the top of the sides.

Any skip 16yd3 or smaller should never exceed the legal road limit of 7 tonnes (roughly the weight of 5 Ford Fiestas). Larger “roll on roll off” skips should only be used for light waste and the legal limit for these is 16 tonnes.

If your project ends up producing more waste than you initially planned for, you can call our friendly customer service team on 0161 703 8592. They will be happy to help you order an additional skip, as well as provide advice on skip sizes and waste volumes or tonnages. If in doubt, give us a call.

Why can’t I put batteries in the skip?

Lithium-ion batteries are extremely flammable and must not be placed in any skip, wheelie bin, or container. They are one of the biggest reasons behind fires in waste vehicles.

Leaving batteries in gadgets or devices during disposal presents the same risk as placing a smouldering BBQ in the wate.

Batteries are a form of hazardous waste, and you’ll need to arrange a separate solution for disposal. Local residents can always instead use the battery recycling bin at their supermarket or HWRC (Household Waste Recycling Centre).

Can I get a skip delivered to Manchester?

Yes. At Kenny Skip Hire we deliver skips from our base in Worsley across the whole of Greater Manchester. Furthermore, let us know when you have finished with the Skip and we will come and collect it from you.

What can't I put in a skip?

There are certain items that cannot be placed in a general waste skip. Most items are “detailed” within our Terms and Conditions page, although the list is not exhaustive.

Please don’t hesitate to ask one of our helpful team should you have a non standard item which is not commonly found in a household or garden that requires disposal.

How long can I keep the skip for?

The maximum rental period is 7 days for non-account customers. If you have an account with us, skips can be rented for a maximum of 28 days.

Please request your collection within this time or we will need to make an unannounced collection.

Which is the right skip for me?

Whatever your project, we have a solution to suit your needs. Check out our handy video guide from Ted, our company founder, for an in-depth look at each skip and how it can be useful to you:

General Questions

What is hazardous waste?

Hazardous waste is any waste which poses a potential risk to the environment or public health and are often Toxic, Reactive, Flammable, and/or Corrosive.

Hazardous waste doesn’t just mean obvious materials and substances like asbestos. Regulations include all types of waste that could potentially cause harm, including certain types of empty packaging such as paint tins, oily rags, aerosols, and used expanding foam canisters. You can’t just throw a used vape or empty silicone tube in a general waste skip.

These waste types require a separate solution and cannot be placed in any wheelie bin or skip. Some examples of hazardous wastes include:

  • Batteries
  • Vapes
  • Fluorescent Tubes
  • Aerosols
  • Oil
  • Oily Rags / Spill Kits
  • Solvents
  • Paints
  • Mastics
  • Glues & Adhesives
  • WEEE (Electrical & Electronic)
  • Fridges
  • TVs
  • Monitors

If in doubt, give our team a call on 0161 703 8592 and we’ll provide a hazardous waste solution that works for you.

Why does plasterboard need a separate skip?

The plasterboard is not hazardous on its own, but the gypsum contained within produces a highly toxic gas (hydrogen sulphide) in a process called putrefaction when wet or disposed of with biodegradable waste.

As such, plasterboard waste is banned from landfill and is only suitable for recycling, recovery, or incineration. When disposed of correctly, gypsum can be recycled continuously into new products.

Booked online, they called to arrange delivery, skip arrived, filled skip, called to collect, skip collected. Couldn’t ask for more.

Thank you!
